Youtuber Matt Spears managed to demonstrate what can and cannot be done on a heavy touring motorcycle. In his latest challenge, which seems to be the final one for the bike, he took on a hill climb with rider Austin Teyler, a five-time American ‘Hillclimb‘ champion.

Climbing such a mountain with off-road bikes is already not easy, let alone with a Honda Gold Wing, a motorcycle that weighs nearly 400kg.

In the video, Matt tries to climb several hills; the steeper the hill, the scarier and more entertaining it becomes. Everything seems fine until the incline becomes too much for the Gold Wing, causing it to tip sideways and tumble down the hill.

Its remnants – the body, blinkers, speakers, and many other parts – end up scattered across the hill. The handlebar got bent, and the engine was a total loss.

The lesson is clear, though you might think it’s common sense: don’t take heavy motorcycles off-roading because a mere momentary loss of control can end both you and the bike. Matt was lucky that the Gold Wing didn’t hit him, but it was a close call.

Hillclimbing

Hillclimbing, also known as mountain climbing in motorsport terms, is a category where drivers or riders compete against the clock to complete an uphill course. It’s one of the oldest forms of racing due to its basic premise: a driver or rider aims to determine how quickly they can ascend a given hill.
